Musclestache Nutrition wasn’t formed from a business plan—it was born out of necessity. Founder Jacob Bates faced serious health issues at just 22 years old. Daily life began with doctor-prescribed medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. As he and his wife prepared to start their family, reality struck. His health was not in a place to bring a child into the world. Something had to change.
Growing up in the South, nutrition education was rare. Meals were fried, drinks were sweetened, and dessert was a regular part of everyday life. Jacob’s lifestyle caught up with him, eventually weighing 300 pounds. When he finally committed to change, he dove into the world of nutrition—studying, experimenting, and transforming his own body. Dropping to 240 pounds completely changed his life, both physically and mentally.
Determined to deepen his understanding, Jacob earned his Nutritionist Certification from ISSA, discovering a new purpose: helping others feel good in their bodies and experience real, sustainable health. He realized that most people go through life operating far below their full potential—feeling sluggish, tired, and unaware of what true health can feel like.
The Birth of the Name “Musclestache”
The name came unexpectedly—and humorously. After stepping out of the shower one day, Jacob did what most men do: flexed in the mirror. Proud of his progress and new physique, he noticed the two things that stood out—his mustache and his muscles. In that moment he thought, “I have the mustache and the muscles… Musclestache.”
It was memorable, authentic, relatable, and perfectly represented his transformation. Most men—and their wives—get a laugh out of it, but the meaning runs deeper. Musclestache symbolizes confidence, discipline, and a commitment to becoming the healthiest version of yourself. That spirit became the foundation of the brand and the beginning of a mission to reach men and women across the USA.
